Inspiring Girls to Be Strong, Smart and Bold
In keeping with our commitment to be the leading advocate for women in the insurance industry, Travelers supports Girls Inc., a nonprofit that inspires girls ages 5 to 18 to be “strong, smart and bold!” In 2017, the Travelers St. Louis office established a partnership with the local Girls Inc. affiliate and hosted the first Girls’ Leadership Summit. Our Melville, New York, office replicated the program the following year with its local Girls Inc. affiliate.
Based on this model, in 2020, Travelers began hosting in-person and virtual programs for girls in partnership with Girls Inc., where students and parents have the opportunity to hear from engaging presenters on topics related to personal branding, interview skills and insurance careers.
In 2022 and 2023, Travelers’ St. Louis and Melville offices hosted Girls Inc. summits in partnership with the Travelers Black and African American & Allies Diversity Network. Together, facilitators offered workshops to assist Girls Inc. participants with college preparation and career exploration.
In 2023, three Travelers’ employees in our Bond & Specialty Insurance business were honored at the 17th annual St. Louis Girls Inc. luncheon. In addition, our Bond & Specialty Insurance group hosted 20 Girls Inc. participants at the women-owned Family Golf and Learning Center in St. Louis. To help increase their confidence through golf, the young women were matched with PGA Golf pros, as well as a Travelers employee who competes in tournaments on the World Long Drive tour in his spare time.
