Travelers Championship®: Our Signature Community Event

The Travelers Championship® golf tournament is a PGA TOUR Signature Event, and it showcases how our company and employees maintain a strong commitment to the communities in which we live and work. The event features four days of competition by some of the world’s best professional golfers and attracts tens of thousands of fans to Connecticut each year, on top of being broadcast to more than 200 countries.
All net proceeds from the Travelers Championship benefit charities throughout the region. Since Travelers became title sponsor in 2007, the tournament has generated more than $28 million to support more than 900 local charities. In 2023, the tournament generated $3 million for more than 180 local charities, including the primary beneficiary, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, which provides medically-supervised summer camps and programs free of charge to children with serious illnesses and their families.
The Travelers Championship has also given many other important causes a platform that helps bring awareness to their organizations and funds to their bottom lines. Examples include:
- Amy’s Angels, a grass roots organization that provides comprehensive short- and long-term assistance to individuals and their families dealing with the debilitating effects of serious illness or injury.
- Malta House of Care, a mobile medical clinic that offers physicals, testing, immunizations, medications and health coaching, among other services, to uninsured adults in Greater Hartford.
- Special Olympics Connecticut, an organization that inspires inclusion for people of all abilities through sport while also promoting a healthy lifestyle by offering free health screenings at events and educational resources to improve sports performance and overall health and fitness.
- The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, the largest private funder of the world’s preeminent pancreatic cancer researchers.
Another noteworthy charitable event in 2023 was the second annual Charlie Sifford Golf Outing, held on Tuesday of tournament week at Wethersfield Country Club in Connecticut. The event recognized the accomplishments of the first Black golfer to earn a PGA TOUR card. In its first two years, the event has generated $200,000 for The Dr. Charles L. Sifford Scholarship. This funding will help cover college tuition for students who attend historically Black colleges or universities or for students of color focusing their education on a golf management program.
Volunteering at the Travelers Championship provides employees with a unique opportunity to invest time in the local community alongside their colleagues, while being part of one of the PGA TOUR’s biggest events. Travelers employees contributed approximately 20,000 volunteer hours for the Travelers Championship in 2023.
Finally, the Travelers Championship has a tradition of celebrating and recognizing our country’s military heroes. The event has offered several benefits, including free admission for U.S. military members, veterans and their immediate family and access to the Patriots’ Outpost, a hospitality venue with free food and beverages.
