Travelers Institute®: Travelers Institute University Outreach

The Travelers Institute supports the next generation of risk and insurance professionals by partnering with colleges and universities to offer a range of educational opportunities. In 2025, the Travelers Institute’s university and academic partners included:

  • The Risk and Uncertainty Management Center at the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business.
  • The Master’s in Financial Technology (FinTech) program at the University of Connecticut School of Business.
  • The Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Science at Georgia State University.
  • The Katie School of Insurance and Risk Management at Illinois State University.
  • The Center for Risk Management & Insurance at the University of St. Thomas.
  • Central Connecticut State University School of Business.
  • Gamma Iota Sigma.

We partnered with universities and colleges for 20 Wednesdays with Woodward® webinars, and two episodes featured prominent faculty members from the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business and the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago.

Notably, the Travelers Institute launched a new initiative called Risk. Regulation. Resilience. Responsibility.℠ at a kickoff event in St. Paul, Minnesota, in partnership with the University of St. Thomas. The event was hosted on campus and planned in coordination with two campus organizations that serve as key recruiting relationships for Travelers: the university’s Center for Risk Management & Insurance and the university chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma, an international collegiate organization for students of insurance, risk management and actuarial science. More than 20 students, including students from nearby University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, attended the program, which was opened with welcoming remarks from Rob Vischer, President of the University of St. Thomas. Additionally, the Travelers Institute partnered with Georgia State University in Atlanta for the third installment of the Risk. Regulation. Resilience. Responsibility. initiative in October and hosted a Small Business – Big Opportunity® symposium at Boise State University in February 2025.

Beyond these campus events, an original Travelers Institute Risk & Resilience podcast episode featured a conversation between Travelers President of Personal Insurance Michael Klein and Gamma Iota Sigma Executive Director Grace Grant about what today’s students seek in their future careers in insurance. Travelers Institute leaders also delivered educational programming on the state of the American economy to students, faculty and community members at The Katie School of Insurance and Risk Management and Central Connecticut State University.

These university outreach activities build on Travelers’ long history of engagement with students and the academic community, improving the company’s ability to recruit top-tier talent and furthering its position as a thought leader in multiple disciplines and business areas.
